Mill assessment in Latin America improves output

Opportunity
A major South American exporter of plywood to both Europe and North America was unable to compete in both markets as prices tumbled in 2008. Adalis was asked to evaluate the mill and develop a plan for reducing production costs.  

Solution
An Adalis mill assessment revealed downtime in excess of 30% at the composing lines due to equipment, operation, and maintenance problems.  The mill had made a decision to install an additional composer to improve output.  After the assessment, Adalis instead suggested that the mill install rotary applicators on the existing composers and trained operations and maintenance personnel. 

Results
By implementing the proposed improvements, composer downtime was reduced by 90% and output jumped by 60% without the need for an additional composing line.
