Maximize Cube Utilization
Improve Usage in Pallets, Trailers and Shipping Containers
When shipping containers are not ‘weighing out’ there are opportunities to increase shipping density. By increasing your products per cube, shipping throughputs increase and transportation costs decrease. If containers max out on weight there may be additional opportunities to improve handling and storage efficiencies.
Adalis has expertise to analyze and evaluate systems, identify improvement opportunities and the resources to implement the needed packaging changes.
If a package was not designed with sustainability in mind, there is an opportunity to achieve savings through right-weighting. Often, packages are designed without a thorough assessment of the supply chain.
Common signs for packaging utilization improvements:
- Voids in containers
- Shipping air
- Excessive dimensional freight charges
- Partial trailer or container loads
- Pallet underhang or overhang
- Oversized packaging fees
Right-weighting Packages
"Right-weighting" a package is typically done after the package has been produced and shipped. Testing a package can help you validate if it was over-engineered for a particular supply chain. Perhaps it was designed as a double-wall box when a single-wall box would have adequately protected the product. Or perhaps a container includes wood supports when different supports would provide adequate protection. Adalis can test suggested changes to package designs to prove the new design will realize savings without sacrificing performance.
